The Rantings of a Conservative American
Posted by: vapebait // Category: General, Guest Contributors, VapebaitI know I’m one of the those in this country that is extremely political, and I will be the first to admit that most of the news I get is from Fox News and the few neutral sources I can find on the ‘Net. But watching the news, and watching our government in action on C-SPAN, I have begun to feel more and more enraged about how we as a nation continue to be slipping away from what the Founding Fathers wanted for our country when they wrote the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Now, I watch a lot of “The Glenn Beck Program” on FNC, although I started watching and listening to his show when he was on Headline News. Recently, he started this thing called the 9/12 Project (9 Principles, 12 Values), and it’s really taking off. I urge all of you to take a look at it, because there is some truth to the things laid out. Looking at these items, it becomes even more difficult to comprehend the travesty that our government is perpetuating every day. To that effect, I’m going to lay them out here for you:
The 9 Principles
- America Is Good.
- I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life
- I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
- The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government/
- If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
- I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
- I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
- It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
- The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
The 12 Values
- Honesty
- Reverence
- Hope
- Thrift
- Humility
- Charity
- Sincerity
- Moderation
- Hard Work
- Courage
- Personal Responsibility
- Gratitude
I know I’m hopping on a soap-box, but I feel that I must in order to air what I consider to be my thoughts on the issues that affect all of us. We are sliding into an abyss, and our government is doing everything in its power to keep us in awe of it. Liberals in Congress tell us we need them in order to survive, Conservatives have lost their backbones. No member of our government can claim that they stick to their principles, because this current group of politicians in Washington have none to speak of, including our President. I quote the Declaration of Independence:
“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men,
deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That
whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends,
it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to
institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles
and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most
likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
Well, it is in the opinion of this conservative American that our government has become destructive. Washington needs to be wiped clean, and a new day needs to dawn. Our leaders have decided that we are not smart enough in Middle America to do things for ourselves, that we cannot survive without their benevolence. Well, screw that. I happen to believe in the power of perseverance and determination, that we can all have what we dream and wish for if we just throw a little elbow grease into it and push through the bad times towards the light of the good.
This economy will turn around, our country will survive, but we are standing at the precipice of irrevocable change if we continue to spend as we do in Congress. Right now, with the “Pork-ulus” Bill and President Obama’s budget, we have signed ourselves to paying this deficit well into the 2020s, and possibly even farther. Is this the change that we wanted last November? Is this the change that Obama campaigned on?
No. We did not want business as usual in Washington. We did not want the Democrats and the Left to destroy our country by changing us into a newer model of failed European Socialism. We did not want the continued spending of the Bush Administration. We did not want higher income taxes on those that are successful, and we did not want to carry those that have decided to let the government swoop in and care for them because of their laziness.
America is not a welfare state! America is not a home to those who flout our laws and want for government intervention on every aspect of their lives! America is a home to ingenuity and hard work, inventiveness and free markets, small government and the dedicated respect of the rule of law! Our Constitution has guided us for over 200 years, and in the span of the first six months of this new administration, our President and Congress have decided to throw it out in favor of a model that sounds great when hashing it out over coffee in the halls of the Ivy League, but it has already been proven a failure by the governments of Europe.
WE DESERVE BETTER! WE DESERVE CHANGE!
I call on all Americans to demand a return to the rule of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Write your leaders in Congress. March on your state capitals! Demand a return to the proper rule of law so our children and grandchildren can look back on this administration as a bad dream, rather than the nightmare we are living through.
