Yesterdays Losers, Democrat and Republican
Posted by: Rudy Carrera // Category: News, Rudolph CarreraWhile monitoring my Facebook account, I had to laugh at a friend who is normally smart on politics (though disgustingly Libertarian – yeah, Ted, you). He was gloating that the Palin-Thompson-Limbaugh axis was handed a loss yesterday in New York’s 23rd Precinct after Democrat Bill Owens won. It shows a very sad lack of paying attention to what happens politically. The problem, in reality, was that the Republican Party was foolish in supporting a DIABLO (Democrat In All But Label Only – the acronym fits beautifully) instead of a Conservative. Doug Hoffman was polling in single digits before he received the help he did from Sarah Palin, Fred Thompson and other Conservative pundits (Eric Erickson of Red State comes to mind). He exploded at the end, but because party leadership didn’t help in time, he lost. But damn, he made it close.
So who else lost? Obama-ism did. President Obama is still well-liked by half of the populace, and that’s fair enough. Perhaps he comes off as engaging to some. I felt the same about George W. Bush. That’s a personal preference. What is more relevant are the policies of the current leadership. No matter how much one spins it, Obama-ism took a huge hit last night. 2010 will be a very tough year for Liberal Democrats. The so-called “Blue Dogs” had better move on cleaning the garbage out of their party before it falls any further into oblivion. They may want to read Dick Morris’ and Eileen McGann’s proclamation that ObamaCare may be dead.
Who else lost? Newt Gingrich. Big time. That he decided to play along with Dede Scozzafava rather than go with his finer instincts and common sense to support Doug Hoffman shows he’s a man really out of touch with the voting public. He should hang his head in shame for supporting that DIABLO. This will further destroy his hopes to ever be president.
